The achieved results and prepared products under the ICT Greening Up Initiative project were presented to partners and interested persons from the ICT community on March 12, 2024 in Burgas. Thus, the team that implemented the Initiative celebrated its successful finale.

ICT Cluster Burgas carried out the activities of the ambitious project in partnership with "ProspectiM Association" and with the active participation of ICT-Norway.

Funding was provided by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism (Norway Grants) 2014-2021, within the framework of the program "Development of business, innovation and small and medium-sized enterprises", Bulgaria.

The project succeeded in accelerating the transition of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups from the information and communication technologies (ICT) sector, established in the Burgas region, to a sustainable and climate-neutral business model, zero pollution and application of the principles of the circular economy. The ICT Greening Up initiative has really improved the potential of the targeted companies to be innovative and more competitive.

The specific objectives were achieved, namely:

  • Improved access to information and raised awareness among the ICT sector, SMEs and start-ups about their impact on the environment. An understanding of the potential business benefits of sustainable transformation was built, and companies were motivated to innovate by going green.
  • Build capacity in SMEs and start-ups to transform to a sustainable, climate-neutral, circular business model and zero pollution, including improving the knowledge and technological skills of companies to introduce "green innovation" and "good practices" in the field of energy efficiency and the use of "green" energy; e-waste prevention and a sustainable circular economy at every stage of their business cycle: design, production, distribution and consumption of goods and services.
  • Business cooperation, networking and the transfer of innovative green practices and technological know-how between the Bulgarian and Norwegian ICT sectors were encouraged.
